Suitable for people who really want to learn to ski.
It's not like Karuizawa, where there are many locals and the staff are generally friendly and speak English. However, if you're a skiing beginner and want the same level of service as in Karuizawa, I recommend finding a Chinese-speaking instructor and doing your research beforehand. There aren't many leisure activities outside of skiing here, nor are there outlets or hot springs, but there are plenty of ski slopes to choose from, and most people who come here have some skiing experience.
