Least Crowded in Hokkaido
There are rest houses, a changing room and rental shops to accommodate you at the resort. Their gondola lift will hold up to 4 passengers which is above the standard of Japan ski resorts receiving many compliments for its comfortable riding experience.
Lift tickets are reasonably priced at Kamui Ski Links as the resort is operated by the city. You have a lift pass option of 3 hour, 5 hour and free so you can purchase according to your trip schedule.
One of the reasons making this resort attractive is it provides a higher standard of facilities on site, yet it is rarely crowded because there are less ski tours coming from the main island of Japan and accommodations are limited.
While this resort is not an easy option if you are in the main island, once you are in Asahikawa City, we highly recommend this resort with less crowd, moderate pricing and a big open trail. Most skiers who come to this resort stay in Asahikawa or Sapporo.
Simply designed trails.
The resort is simply designed with all trails from the mountain top coming down to the base area where most facilities are located. With this design, you will end up at the bottom of the resort area regardless of which path you take, making it easy for children to ski and for parents to keep an eye.
Snow is overall well maintained with compressed snow and keeps a good balance between high speed area and slow area.
Wide trails
There are 25 courses in total ranging from beginner courses to uncompressed snow slope for advanced skiers. Taking advantage of the big vast area, almost all trails are designed wide and open. Plus the high visibility and less crowd makes it possible for skiers to go from left to right freely. Many slopes are suitable for beginners who can’t control skis yet.
Inland Location Provides High Quality Snow
Kamui Ski Links is the most popular ski resort in Hokkaido with its high quality powder snow. Because the resort is located inland, snow is dry and powdery. Snow tends to stay unflattened which is nice.
A Tree Run for Advanced Skiers
There is a trail that lets advanced skiers to enjoy tree skiing. Uncompressed snow area is open all though the season for intermediate to advanced skiers.
40 Minute Bus Ride from the City
If you decide to go, we recommend you take a local bus from Asahikawa City. You can also hop on a taxi since it is not so far from the city. It takes about 40 minutes from the city by bus, about an hour from Asahikawa Airport.
Some travellers come from Sapporo City as part of their trip to Asahikawa and make a stop by at this resort. 85 minutes from Sapporo City.
Stay in Asahikawa for Sightseeing
Because it is managed by the city, there are no hotels that can be accessed directly from the resort. There are Japanese bed-and-breakfasts in the area too, but if you are staying for several days in Asahikawa, we recommend you stay at a hotel within Asahikawa City so you can go sightseeing and enjoy gourmets.
Ramen on Snow!
There are 3 restaurants on the resort. On the 2nd floor of Center House which provides more than 500 seating, a scenic restaurant on mountain top called Mt751 and Ramen Shokudo NOBu in an annex building of Ski Center.
Ramen Shokudo NOBu is the most popular restaurant on the resort. Their soup is made from broth of chicken and pork bones creating a traditional Asahikawa Ramen. It is a bit of hassle to get to the restaurant compared to Center House at the base, but we recommend you try this ramen.
Summary
Kamui Ski Links is no less attractive than other major ski resorts in Hokkaido. With less skier and reasonably priced lift ticket, it is worthwhile taking a day trip from Asahikawa City.
