Norn Minakami Ski Resort: An Urban-Style Resort Offering Night Skiing

13 October, 2021
We recently visited Norn Minakami Ski Resort, famous for being the closest ski resort in Gunma Prefecture to the Tokyo metropolitan area. At just 2 hours outside the nation’s capital, this resort offers nighttime skiing until 10pm every day! While the slopes themselves are on the smaller side, this ski resort is full of fun things to do! In this article, we’d like to go over 5 points that will help you make the most of your Norn Minakami experience.

Norn Offers Wide Open Courses And A Relaxed Skiing Experience

While the overall scale of the courses is small, each is quite wide and feature gentle inclines, making them a great choice for beginner skiers. With the slopes featuring a variety of different inclines peppered throughout, you surely won’t get tired of skiing on these courses.

A wide open slope
While some courses may be a little too steep for beginners, most are targeted at the beginner to intermediate skill level. Another great part about this resort is that it enjoys many clear sunny days throughout the year. Enjoy riding the smooth, relaxed slopes to your heart’s content!

Snow Parks Where Even Beginners Can Test Their Skills!

Norn Minakami is especially well known for its snow parks! With easy challenges to try all lined up, even beginners can try their hand at doing some tricks. Each item in the park is small, and the wide open area makes it perfect to practice your moves.

This park even offers nighttime skiing. Open until 9:00pm on weekends! Come check out the park whenever the mood strikes you!

A Resort Center With Lots Of Gourmet Choices To Try!

Another great aspect about Norn Minakami is all the choices of slope-side cuisine! There are 5 restaurants and cafes on offer right on the mountain. What we would like to especially recommend is “Play the Earth,” a restaurant on the 3rd story terrace.

Their best dish has got to be their Ajitsuki Jerk Chicken, offering lots of juicy meat! This is one dish that’s certain to fill you up.

Snap A Photo To Commemorate Your Trip At Dusk

Slopes at dusk
Though it may completely slip your mind as you ski all day long, the view at dusk is remarkably stunning and marks the perfect time to take a commemorative photo. While you can always take a photo with your smartphone, we recommend bringing your nice camera out in the evening! Once the sun sets a little, just press down on that shutter and you’re sure to capture something truly breathtaking.

Norn Minakami’s Famous Nighttime Skiing!

Ski slopes at night
The resort offers nighttime skiing every day until 10:00pm. On Fridays and Saturdays they run even longer, staying open until midnight at the latest. Since they offer such long hours, this is the perfect place to head if you’re planning a day trip.

Ski slopes lit up at night
The temperatures go down with the sun, so make sure to wear lots of layers if you’re staying out skiing late. Also, the runs can get a little icy after dark, so don’t overdo it!
