Access to the Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort

One of the best things about the Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort is how easy it is to get to! From Tokyo, it’s about an hour away by Hokuriku Shinkansen, and about two hours away by car. 2 hours away from Haneda Airport, and 3 hours away from Narita Airport. Head out through the South Exit of Karuizawa Station, and the slope will be right in front of you - so just walk towards the slope and you won’t get lost.
You can also get on the shuttle bus that leaves from the South Exit of Karuizawa Station, which gets to the ski resort in about a minute. We recommend this if you have a lot of luggage and don’t feel like walking around. Departure times for the shuttle are subject to change depending on road conditions and/or the weather. Be sure to check the timetable on the official website in advance.

Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort has 10 ski courses. There are a wide variety of courses, from beginner’s courses, with their gentle slopes, to non-stop long-distance slopes that can get up to as long as 1,200 meters.
There are also ski lessons (from 4,000 yen/2 hours) offered at the slope right in front of Karuizawa Prince Hotel East, connected directly to this resort, making this also a beginner-friendly resort. There are five beginner courses, so you can slowly ramp up the difficulty as you get more comfortable.
The Snow Park is full of fun activities for the family!

Right next to the slopes, there’s a Kids’ Park, where little kids can play in the snow. This park, which is located on a gentle slope, offers activities like sledding (rental fee 500 yen/sled) and tubing, where you can slide down the slope on a tire.
There are also lockers and dressing rooms right near the park, so you don’t have to worry about where to change your clothes, change your baby’s diaper, or where you should put your belongings. Just enjoy yourself! Admission fee is 1,300 yen for both adults and children, and free for children under 3 years old.
A full assortment of ski gear available for rental! Come empty-handed!
The Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort offers a full assortment of ski gear for rental. The One-Day Ski Rental Set offers skis, snow shoes, ski wear, goggles, and gloves for the reasonable fee of 5,000 yen for adults and 4,000 yen for children.

The Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza boasts over 240 shops
The Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza is a huge shopping mall operated by Seibu Properties, connected directly to Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort. The mall was built on a former golf course, in preparation of Karuizawa Station becoming a stop on the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
The expansive property, which still retains its lake and golf course, is now home to about 240 restaurants and shops for furniture, miscellaneous goods, and more. Forgot something at home? Just head over to the mall and get whatever you need for your ski experience.

TRATTORIA PRIMO is great for a meal!

Karuizawa Prince Hotel Ski Resort boasts a wide variety of restaurants, including Soba Choujian, where you can enjoy Shinshu-style soba, and Restaurant Azalea, known for its curries and pastas. Of these, perhaps the most popular is TRATTORIA PRIMO.
This is a famous Italian restaurant in Karuizawa - so popular that there are long lines out the door every day. The chef here serves authentic Italian food, having trained as a chef in Italy. Every day, skiers crowd around the restaurant during lunchtime for a taste of these dishes.
Our favorite is the cast-iron pizza, laden with seafood and fresh vegetables directly from Karuizawa. The pizza, roasted on a cast-iron pan, is piping hot and quite filling. They also offer all kinds of dishes you’ll want to eat in Karuizawa, such as bagna cauda with fresh vegetables.
