27 December, 2023
Naeba Ski Resort, located in the town of Yuzawa in Niigata Prefecture, is a ski resort operated by Prince Hotels, Inc. Among the many ski resorts in the Niigata area, it’s located in a place of particularly high altitude. It’s beloved by many skiers and snowboarders for its smooth, non-sticky snow quality, which comes naturally from the location. The long operating period is another one of Naeba Ski Resort’s charms. Though most places close up in April, Naeba runs until the beginning of May. As a result, you can enjoy skiing for one month longer than other ski resorts.

Access to Naeba Ski Resort

Echigo-Yuzawa Station
Echigo-Yuzawa Station, the closest station to Naeba Ski Resort, can be reached by the Joetsu Shinkansen from Niigata Airport in 45 minutes, and in 2 hours from Tokyo Station. It’s also in a position where it can be reached from both Narita and Haneda Airports by train and Shinkansen transfer in 1 hour 30 minutes, and less than 2 hours. From Niigata Airport, Naeba can be reached in 30-50 minutes by car, depending on the traffic conditions and the weather.

There’s also a shuttle bus that operates directly to Naeba from the east exit of Echigo-Yuzawa Station. As such, it’s possible to relax and enjoy your skiing trip without having to worry about not knowing the best way to get there. The fare for the shuttle bus is 660 yen for adults, and 330 yen for children. Guests who are staying at the Naeba Prince Hotel can ride the shuttle bus for free.

Ponshu-kan
The Japanese sake museum Ponshu-kan can be found within the Echigo-Yuzawa Station building. Here, with the 5-types for 500 yen plan, you can choose to sample 5 types of Japanese sake out of a selection of all the brands that are brewed in Niigata Prefecture. You can also eat Uonuma Bakudan onigiri (rice balls) made from Niigata rice at Yukinto, and enjoy a Japanese sake-infused bath at the Sakeburo Yunosawa.

Ponshu-kan can be found close to the Shinkansen gates. Don’t you think that enjoying Japanese sake and hot springs after returning from the ski resort is one of the real thrills of traveling?
